Calphalon has responded to a recent Consumer Reports issue in which the company’s XL 9-speed blender received a rating of: “Don’t Buy Safety Risk,” after pieces of the blender blades broke off during testing.
According to a statement released by Consumer Reports, when the magazine’s testers ran durability tests on the blender it found that, “knife-sharp fragments broke off from the same place on the blade assembly on three separate units.”
The testers according to the Consumer Reports statement, conluded that the broken pieces were small enough to hid in a smoothie, shake or other food items posing a hazard to consumers.
The magazine went on to indicate that it had received no reports of injuries. The organization notified Calphalon as well as the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
A Calphalon spokesperson responded to the Consumer Reports rating, stating, “The safety of our consumers is our top priority. We take this report seriously. While we received no previous reports of this issue, we will thoroughly investigate this matter. We have full confidence in Calphalon products and stand by our products when used as directed. Any consumer with inquiries can reach us by calling 1-800-809-7267.”
