Weis Markets, Inc. announced that company president and CEO David Hepfinger has left the company. The supermarket chain stated that vice chairman Jonathan Weis has stepped in as interim CEO as part of a rearrangement of executive responsibilities.
About the CEO change, Weis only said that Hepfinger had left the company to pursue other interests. Hepfinger also has resigned from the Weis board of directors. Robert Weis remains as company chairman.
As part of the reorganization, Kurt Schertle, executive vp/sales and merchandising will report directly to Jonathan Weis who will also oversee the company’s Real Estate/Store Development, Finance and Human Resources’ teams. Until the reorganization is complete, Schertle will assume additional responsibility for store operations and the operations support team.
