Kyocera has announced that its Limited Cutlery Series has won a Red Dot Product Design Award. The line features handcrafted Pakka wood handles and the company’s proprietary advanced ceramic blades.
Designed to combine the heritage of Japanese craftsmanship and style with ceramic blade technology, the Limited Cutlery Series is handcrafted in Japan. Featuring a unique, gently curved shape, the knives are designed to contour to the palm for a natural, ergonomic feeling that enhances cutting performance, the company said.
The black blades feature Kyocera’s proprietary Zirconia 206 ceramic, which the company said holds a sharp edge at least 10 times longer than high-carbon steel cutlery. In addition to the Red Dot Award, the line has also won the 2013 Good Design Award and was “Best in Category— Cutlery & Cutting Tools” in the 2013 Housewares Design Awards.
The Limited Cutlery Series includes a 5-inch Utility knife, 5.5-inch Santoku knife, 6-inch Chef’s knife, 6-inch Nakiri knife and a 7-inch Chef’s knife with suggested retail prices ranging from $109.95 to $139.95.
