Nespresso turned the start of last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live broadcast into a unique commercial, integrating Nespresso spokesperson Penelope Cruz and the company’s new VertuoLine brewer into an opening comedy bit that resulted in Kimmel turning over his hosting duties. At the scheduled start of the show, Kimmel’s cast and crew, including Guillermo, were nowhere to be found.
Kimmel was “shocked” to find them backstage, being served coffee by actress and Nespresso spokesperson Penelope Cruz.
The ad included Kimmel becoming “captivated by the coffee” and surrendered his hosting duties for the evening. The approach is part of a Nespresso-branded integration to support the launch of the new VertuoLine single-serve brewing system, Nespresso’s first to deliver an American style cup of coffee. “We are thrilled to partner with Jimmy Kimmel Live and integrate Kimmel’s humor and voice into our VertuoLine marketing efforts, as well as leverage the current conversation surrounding late night TV hosts,” said Guillaume Le Cunff, global marketing director, for Nestle Nespresso SA.
Nespresso launched the VertuoLine system this past February. It is the first Nespresso machine to brew both American style large-cup coffee and espresso.
“Nespresso VertuoLine was specifically designed to meet the taste preferences of the North American coffee drinker,” said Frederic Levy, president, Nespresso USA. “This partnership will help us reach a larger U.S. audience, introduce us to new fans and further increase our brand awareness among coffee lovers in the single-serve coffee market.”
