For the four weeks ended April 26, Rite Aid Corp. posted a comparable store sales gain of 5% over the prior-year period. April front-end comps, including those for general merchandise such as home furnishings and housewares, increased 4.7%, with 4.6 percentage points of the increase attributable to a shift in the timing of Easter.
Pharmacy comps, with an approximately 138 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, increased 5.25.
Prescription sales accounted for 67.9% of drugstore revenues.
On April 26, Rite Aid operated 4,583 stores compared to 4,619 stores in the month a year ago.
