Yesterday, Walgreens opened a new two-story, flagship drugstore in the north tower of Chicago’s iconic Wrigley Building on Michigan Avenue, the retailer announced. Dignitaries and Walgreens executives marked the 27,800-square-foot store’s opening with a ceremonial ribbon cutting at 9 a.m., according to the company.
The store offers shoppers a unique layout, Walgreens maintained, incorporating a gradient color pattern and indirect lighting. Walgreens noted that it designed the store features to complement the building’s exterior. A mosaic floor graphic of the building’s famous clock welcomes customers as they enter the store from Michigan Avenue.
A unit patterned on the Walgreens Well Experience format, the Wrigley Building location addresses healthful living in each department. The store’s ground floor showcases an Upmarket Café, including a made-to-order juice, smoothie and milkshake bar, made-fresh daily hand-rolled sushi and sashimi, a substantial selection of produce, and high-quality, on-the-go meal options such as wraps, soup, sandwiches and salads, the company pointed out. Customers also can access a self-serve frozen yogurt and Icee station. A walk-in cooler provides a selection of craft beers while an assortment cheese and crackers complements a wine presentation, it added.
A LOOK Boutique greets patrons on the second floor and mounts an expanded selection of skincare, hair care and cosmetics including products from Boots No7. While there, shoppers can take in a 180-degree view of Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile while perusing a Chicago souvenir assortment, Walgreens related.
