Web’s Growing Influence Seen In Walmart ‘Cyber Monday’ Back To School Event

Walmart.com’s announcement of its first-ever “Back to Class Cyber Monday” event, giving parents and students the opportunity to save up to 60% on nearly 300 of the most popular back-to-school items, reflects the growing importance of the web in driving retail sales.

The nation’s largest brick and mortar retailer will run an exclusively cyber sale on Monday, August 12, with the opportunity for customers to gain early access to the event this Sunday, August 11, by visiting Walmart’s Facebook page. Top-selling tablets and laptops, uniforms and apparel, school supplies, home items and more will be offered with the biggest savings of the season, just as students prepare to head back to class.

According to a National Retail Federation survey, families plan to spend less on back-to-school shopping this year. “Back to Class Cyber Monday” on Walmart.com appears to be aimed at reversing that prognostication. Among the featured deals are many of the most common back-to-school stapes including a Kids George School uniform polo for $4 (33% savings); all kids graphic tees (including One Direction and Monsters University) for $4 (55% savings) and Elmer’s Washable School Glue, 4fl oz  for $.50 (30% savings); as well as back to dorm items such as an Igloo 3.2 cu. ft. 2-door refrigerator and freezer for $99 (nearly 40% savings).
