Veteran infomercial product marketer Emson has stepped up its development of As Seen On TV items for the popular $10 to $20 segment with the reissue of its Bacon Wave microwave bacon cooker. The re-introduction of Emson’s Bacon Wave cooker reprises an item that first enjoyed As Seen On TV success in the 1990s during the rise of specialty microwave cookware.
The reissue comes with healthy eating at the forefront of many food and housewares marketing strategies. The Bacon Wave features a tray with built-in racks that suspend bacon strips (with included skewers) while they are cooked in a microwave oven, causing grease to drip into the tray for less fat and fewer calories.
The BPA-free cooker can hold 14 strips, or 28 when stacked; the patented design of the tray’s cooking rack produces crisp bacon that doesn’t curl or break, according to the company.
Featuring updated packaging and backed by a new infomercial, the Bacon Wave (whose $10 retail price is lower than the original price) is slated to begin reaching stores in the July/August period primed by this month’s full-scale DRTV rollout.
