Housewares Design Awards Winners Named

This year, at the sixth annual Housewares Design Awards, housewares companies were honored for design innovation with the 13 “Best in Category,” and three “Best of the Best” Awards in Gold, Silver and Bronze. In additon, three companies received recognition with the first annual Green House Awards, recognizing eco-responsive housewares design. The awards were presented at a luncheon ceremony held at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, here.

Honoring design excellence for the art of living, the Housewares Design Awards is the premiere design award competition focused on the housewares industry. HOMEWORLD BUSINESS® presents the awards with educational support from the International Housewares Association. Sponsors of this year’s awards were DuPont Teflon and George Little Management. At the ceremony, Merchandising Excellence Awards were also given to leading retailers, which were selected by HomeWorld Business editors.

From more than 300 entries, 65 finalists were selected representing 13 housewares categories. Finalists were selected by a panel of independent judges (coordinated by IHA) based on design believed to differentiate a product with unique appearance and/or function. Best in Category awards were presented in each category.

In the Kitchen Hand Tools category, Microplane took top honors for its Four-Sided Box Grater. This product also was awarded the “Best of the Best” Gold Award. Dyson Inc. was the winner in the Floor Care Electrics category with its Dyson DC24 vacuum cleaner; which also garnered the “Best of the Best” Silver award. In Kitchenware & Barware, Oxo took home the award for its Good Grips POP container; this product also was awarded “Best of the Best” Bronze.

In Cookware & Bakeware, World Kitchen LLC was the winner with its CorningWare SimplyLite Glass Bakeware, while in Cooking Electrics, Jura Capresso Inc. took top honors with its ENA 5. Wüsthof-Trident of America Inc. was the winner in the Cutlery category for its Classic Eight-inch Panini Knife, while Component Design Northwest Inc. took home Best in Category in Food Prep Electrics for its Dual-Sensing Probe Thermometer/Timer.

Best in Category for Furniture was Meco Corp’s Nichola Collection of folding tables and chairs, while Envion LLC’s Humidiheat held that honor in the Home Environment category. Oxo’s Good Grips MagTack won Best in Category in the Home Organization, Laundry Care & Non-Electric Cleaning Products category, while Casabella Holding Inc. took home the award in the Lighting & Home Décor and Outdoor Living category for its Outdoor Grip Lawn Rake.

Violight Inc.’s Zapi UV Toothbrush Sanitizer won Best in Category in Personal Care/Health Care & Garment Care Electrics, while Bodum USA Inc.’s Biasca Iced Tea Jug held that honor in the Tabletop category.

The first annual Green House Awards were awarded to Cuisinart for its CleanWater Countertop Filtration System, NatureMill Inc. for its NatureMill PRO fully automatic indoor home composter, and Preserve, for its Preserve kitchenware, made from 100% recycled and recyclable kitchenware.

The honored retailers for Merchandising Excellence are Fortunoff’s for Kitchen Electrics; Kohl’s for Cookware & Bakeware; Target for Storage; Costco for Floor Care; Meijer for Furniture; Wegmans for Kitchenware; Ulta for Health/Personal Care; Lowe’s for Home Environment; Home Goods for Lighting; and QVC for Tabletop.
