Sasa Demarle Inc. is donating 100 Silpat non-stick baking mats to the Philabundance Community Kitchen program, an adult culinary arts vocational training program that supplies needed meals to agencies and emergency kitchens. In addition to the donation, Sasa Demarle employees are volunteering at Philabundance’s Hunger Relief Center and hosting a food drive at their office, the company said.

The Philabundance Community Kitchen program prepares low-income adults for careers in the foodservice industry. The Silpat non-stick baking mats will be used to train the students in practical kitchen skills while preparing thousands of meals per year for local shelters, soup kitchens and social service agencies.

“We’re happy to partner with Philabundance Community Kitchen. A non-stick baking mat is a great tool for training participants how to bake a variety of breads, pastries and more,” said Lisa Meyer, vp of Sasa Demarle Inc.

After students graduate from the Philabundance Community Kitchen program, they receive help from the organization’s staff to find and maintain employment in the foodservice industry. Eighty five percent of graduates have been able to find and keep full-time work in restaurants, hotels, cafeterias and catering companies.

Philabundance is the largest hunger relief organization in the Delaware Valley region, according to Sasa Demarle. In the fiscal year 2011, Philabundance distributed 21 million pounds of food to families in need.
