For the four weeks ended January 26, Rite Aid Corp. announced that comparable store sales increased 0.3% over the prior-year period. January front-end comps, including general merchandise, increased 4.2% with 2.4 percentage points generated by flu-related over-the-counter products, the company stated. Pharmacy comps, which included an approximate 665 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, slipped 1.4%, Rite Aid noted. Prescription count at comparable stores increased 5% over the prior-year period, the company related, of which 3.4 percentage points were attributable to flu-related prescriptions and flu shots. Total drug store sales for the four-week period fell 0.5% to $1.91 billion versus the month last year, Rite Aid stated. Prescription sales accounted for 68.9% of drug store sales, the company noted.
