At the Alliance to Save Energy's annual awards dinner last week, The Kroger Co. received the organization’s top award, the "Galaxy" Star of Energy Efficiency. Kroger noted that it made a commitment to saving energy 12 years ago.
The company uses a variety of practices to increase energy efficiency, it noted, employing technology such as LED lighting and engaging store associates in energy savings initiatives. As a result, Kroger has reduced its energy use by 32% since the year 2000 and saved more than $100 million per year in energy costs, according to the company.
"We are honored to receive this recognition from the Alliance to Save Energy," said David Dillon, Kroger's chairman and CEO. "This is a real tribute to Kroger's associates who bring our energy saving programs to life every day. We will continue to work tirelessly in all areas of our business to reduce energy consumption."
