The furniture industry got its first look at the new Bombay lineup from The Powell Co. at its High Point, NC, showroom Saturday. The line debuted with the kick off of the Fall High Point Market.
Powell initially developed about 60 pieces for the market many incorporating new finishes but all based on or inspired by Bombay’s classic international styling. According to Powell executives, about 20 pieces will be included in an initial roll out to furniture stores that will occur this January. The company then will work with mass market operators such as warehouse clubs to expand the line across distribution channels.
Bombay and Powell announced in July that they had formed a partnership that would expand the Bombay brand including accent seating, ottomans, benches, casual dining, youth bedroom, accent furniture and small giftable items. As promised, the collection includes updated versions of Bombay’s best selling and classic items and new pieces.
Under the licensing agreement between Bombay and Powell, Bombay will continue developing long-term relationships with the key retailers it has worked with, such as Bed, Bath & Beyond and The Kroger Co., to expand the brand presence across multiple lifestyle categories. Hermes-Otto International will continue to directly design, source and import products in areas of core competency including décor, wall décor, seasonal and lawn and garden categories.
