Kaz, marketer of the new Honeywell AirGenius Air Cleaner, has sponsored the AirGenius Awards, an initiative that sets out to “clear the air” by assessing the nation's cities based on specific criteria related to air quality, the company stated. So where can you find the cleanest air in America?
According to the study associated with the AirGenius Awards and scientists at the consulting firm Environmental Health & Engineering who evaluated the data, six Florida metropolitan areas were in the top 25, with Palm Bay/Melbourne/Titusville in first place.
"Data on pollen counts, particulate matter and ozone concentrations, public smoking laws, and 'green' city rankings for the 100 most populated U.S. cities were used in this assessment," said Dr. Ted Myatt, a senior scientist at Environmental Health & Engineering. "The results are relevant to city dwellers and homeowners, particularly the elderly, young children and individuals with allergies or asthma."
The AirGenius Awards ranked the top 10 metropolitan areas in the United States with the cleanest air as:
1. Palm Bay/Melbourne/Titusville, FL
2. Cape Coral/Fort Myers, FL
3. North Port-Bradenton/Sarasota, FL
4. Honolulu, HI
5. Tucson, AZ
6. Colorado Springs, CO
7. Albuquerque, NM
8. Seattle/Tacoma/Bellevue, WA
9. Charleston/North Charleston/Summerville, SC
10. Lakeland/Winter Haven, FL
Consumers can take an Air IQ Quiz on the HoneywellPluggedIn Facebook page that can help them determine their personal indoor air quality score. They also can get tips to improve their home air quality and enter a contest to win an AirGenius air cleaner. In addition, the AirGenius Awards list of the air quality rankings of 100 metropolitan areas across the United States is available on Facebook.
