Kohl’s Department Stores has announced that it is adding new units in Decatur, AL, Danville, IL, Ames, IA, Cedar Rapids, IA, Minot, ND, Sherwood, OR, Hermitage, PA, Spring Township, PA and Denton, TX. The new Kohl’s stores offer features including updated checkout stations, newly designed shopping carts and strollers and expanded customer service areas located at the front of the stores, the retailer noted.

The new stores also include Kohl’s Kiosks, electronic signs, the company stated, Wi-Fi and upgraded fitting rooms with lounges in Misses and Juniors. The retailer build eight of the new stores to a prototype that received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, certification at the Gold level from the U.S. Green Building Council, the retailer said, adding that it would pursue LEED certification for new stores in the coming months. Kohl’s LEED stores use of more than 20% recycled and 20% regionally sourced building materials as well as cool white Energy Star-rated roofs and water-efficient landscaping and plumbing fixtures.

“As Kohl’s continues to grow, investing in our stores remains a priority,” said Kevin Mansell, Kohl’s chairman, president and CEO. “We are pleased to open nine new locations today and have plans to remodel 30 locations this year. Our stores provide an inspiring destination for customers and reinforce our commitment to delivering an exciting shopping experience through quality brands, exceptional value and convenience.”
