Mary Rodgers, director of marketing communications for Cuisinart and Waring, recently presented the Book of the Year Award at the International Association of Culinary Professionals’ awards ceremony, which took place at the 35th annual IACP Conference at San Francisco’s Hyatt Embarcadero. The award was given to Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi for their book, Jerusalem: A Cookbook, which is a collection of 120 recipes exploring the flavors of the city.
The personal cookbook, documented by the two longtime friends and colleagues, explores the cuisine of their home city, which includes diverse Muslim, Jewish and Christian communities. Ottolenghi is a New York Times bestselling author of the 2011 cookbook, Plenty, and a respected chef, with five popular restaurants in London. Tamimi has been immersed in food since childhood, setting out on a lifelong journey in the industry, beginning as a commis chef in a Jerusalem hotel and eventually becoming the head chef of Tel Aviv’s Lilith. He brought his enthusiastically bold yet honest style to Ottolenghi, and is now his partner and their company’s head chef.
