Le Creuset Opens Doors To New 'Atelier' In South Carolina

Thursday April 18th, 2013 - 4:23PM

Le Creuset has announced that it has officially opened the door to L’Atelier de Le Creuset, the second large expansion the company has made in the South Carolina Lowcountry within the past two years.  The “Atelier”– which translates roughly as workshop in French— is the first space of its kind for Le Creuset in the world.

The new Le Creuset facility will function as a hub of culinary, charitable, and educational activity for the company and the community, hosting VIP chef demonstrations, cooking technique classes and special open-to-the-public culinary events. In addition, the Atelier will serve as a working office for 24 employees covering marketing and new product development.

“Le Creuset has been a part of the South Carolina Lowcountry for over 30 years, and we are proud to continue to invest in the people and communities of this great area,” said CEO Faye Gooding.

This second expansion Le Creuset follows Le Creuset’s recently completed $5.5 million dollar expansion project in its Early Branch, SC distribution center. The investment added over 200,000 square feet of warehouse and 25 new jobs. Today, Le Creuset employs over 600 people in the United States and has doubled its number of employees in Charleston within the past two years.

Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. joined Gooding to lead the ribbon cutting ceremony. Said Mayor Riley, “This wonderful one-of-a-kind facility will enhance our thriving culinary industry, while investing money and jobs in our community. L’Atelier de Le Creuset is a natural fit for Charleston. We are pleased they have chosen our community for their expansion and growth.”

The new facility will serve as the brand’s North American Marketing and Culinary Center with state-of-the-art appliances by Miele and kitchen design by Siematic.  The building was designed by architecture firm LS3P Associates Ltd and built by HITT Contracting Inc – it represents a multi-million dollar investment in the Charleston community.  L’Atelier is located at 116 Ripley Point Charleston, SC 29407.
