On May 15, the MoMA Design Store is launching the 11th event in its Destination: Design series, Destination: NYC. The collection features approximately 200 lifestyle products developed by New York designers including home accessories, furniture, paper goods and jewelry.
All products are designed in one of the five boroughs of New York City and manufactured in the United States.
“We are so impressed by the depth of local talent submitted during our Open Call for New York designers last year,” said Emmanuel Plat, MoMA’s retail division director of merchandising. “The innovative products and unique designs truly reflect urban living and led us to create our largest collection to date.”
The collection celebrates established and up-and-coming designers alike with product from long-time MoMA Design Store contributors such as Alexis Bittar, Baggu and Sandy Chilewich, as well as new discoveries in the New York design community.
Products include the Tilt Stool, a functional seat, side table and rocking chair that can easily stack and store items, and the Wire Hanger, a wall organizer based on the iconic eponymous product. The event also will feature personal accessories such as luggage tags, jewelry and scarves, and it will showcase legendary New York landmarks.
“In New York City, we are fortunate to be surrounded by design that represents a wide range of backgrounds, ideas and passions,” said Paola Antonelli, MoMA's senior curator of architecture and design, and director of research and development, as well as member of the design jury. “We're thrilled to offer a direct connection to these designers through Destination: NYC, and hope the project will inspire both New Yorkers and guests to think critically about innovative design and its role in our everyday life.”
The Destination: NYC product collection will be available in MoMA Design Stores in New York City and Tokyo.
