Long Island Cares has announced that the Housewares Charity Foundation will support the regional food bank’s Emergency Response and Recovery Services program in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy with a $50,000 grant. The grant comes from donations raised at the Charity Foundation’s 16th Annual Gala and Expo, which was held in Chicago on March 4, in conjunction with the International Home + Housewares Show.

“This is a great honor for Long Island Cares, and the funds will support our ongoing work with local families across Long Island who continue to rebuild their lives and their homes following the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy,” said spokesperson Robin Amato.

Lifetime Brands, Inc., headquartered in Garden City, NY, spearheaded the selection of Long Island Cares, Inc.—The Harry Chapin Food Bank.  The Long Island-based housewares company also donated $500.000 in kitchen products and cookware to the regional food bank to help local families in the recovery process following the impact of Hurricane Sandy.

The mission of the Housewares Charity Foundation is, “in the spirit of goodwill, to raise funds annually for designated charities and help unite and promote the philanthropic image of the housewares industry.” HCF’s legacy charity is the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
