Shopko has appointed Peter McMahon CEO, the company has announced. Prior to his new position at Shopko, McMahon was COO at Canadian supermarket operator Loblaws. As COO at the top Canadian food retailer, McMahon supervised Loblaws' Supply Chain, IT, HR, Labor Relations, Merchandising, Store Operations and Loss Prevention functions.

Before Loblaws, McMahon held senior level positions at Wal-Mart, Inc. in Germany and Japan and Britain-based supermarket, convenience store and hypermarket operator Tesco Plc. in central Europe.

"We are fortunate to have such a successful and distinguished retail executive like Peter McMahon join the Shopko team," said T. Scott King, senior managing for Sun Capital Partners, Inc., which owns Shopko. "Peter is highly collaborative and has an outstanding track record of driving results and solving complex business problems. His extensive supply chain experience will be a tremendous asset as Shopko continues to grow its ShopKo Hometown store format, which serves smaller, rural markets. Peter will be an excellent addition to lead the already strong executive team at Shopko."

Shopko operates about 350 stores in 22 states throughout the Midwest, Mountain, North Central and Pacific Northwest regions of the United States including 134 namesake discount stores, five Shopko Express Rx stores, 16 Shopko Pharmacy locations and 180 Shopko Hometown small-format stores.
