99 Cents Only Rolls Out Smaller Format Store In Texas

On Thursday, 99 Cents Only Stores will open its first store in Waco, TX, employing a format considerably smaller than its traditional store model. The new Waco location, at 5912 Bosque Boulevard, consists 13,000 square feet, down from the 15,000 to 20,000 square feet that, the company stated in its latest 10-K filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, is its targeted store size range.

In the filing, 99 Cents Only said its average store size is 21,000 square feet.

As part of grand opening events, the company will offer a Westinghouse flat screen television at a price of 99 cents to the first nine customers in line line when the Waco store first opens. In addition, any shopper in line by 7:45 a.m. on opening day will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win the 10th Westinghouse 40-inch flat panel.

With 339 retail locations overall, 99 Cents Only operates 244 stores in California, 45 in Texas, 33 in Arizona, and 17 in Nevada.
