Four products took top honors in the seventh annual Homewares Show Awards. The program recognizes innovation in home and housewares products on display during the recent National Hardware Show.
The following Homewares Show Awards were presented:
• Gold Award: Upper Desk, Inc., Portable Cabinet Mount for iPads and electronic tablets.
• Silver Award: e3light Inc., mylight motion-sensor bed light.
• Bronze Award: Food Cycle Science, Food Cycler indoor food composter.
• Honorable Mention: Cornerstone Distributing Co. Inc., Mini Hangout storage rack.
The Homewares Show Awards program, sponsored by HomeWorld Business, evaluates entries based on aesthetics, differentiation/uniqueness, whether they fill consumer needs, overall value and packaging/merchandising support.
The entries were judged by a panel of merchants representing the wide scope of retail channels that attend the National Hardware Show: Terry Shearer, president of The Organizing Store; Deborah Shearer, vp/marketing and merchandising of The Organizing Store; Joel Marks, director of merchandising at Home Hardware; Steve Domingues, merchandise manager at Orchard Supply Hardware; Greg DeLoia of QVC; Tony Luckie, executive director of the Storage Sources Group; Mike Griffith, divisional merchandise manager of Tuesday Morning; John Rij, senior category manager at Wakefern; and Brendan Sullivan, director of merchandising for Pro Group.
“Innovative, new products have been catalysts for renewed growth in the housewares and home improvement markets,” said HomeWorld Business Editor-in-Chief Peter Giannetti, who presented the Homewares Show awards. “HomeWorld Business shares the National Hardware Show’s commitment to helping retailers identify these new products and sales growth opportunities.”
The Upper Desk Portable Cabinet Mount adjusts to fit any size iPad and tablet and can be mounted to most cabinets or shelves in seconds without tools and without damaging surfaces, according to the company. The mount was designed to provide an ergonomic, sturdy, glare-reducing and spill-avoiding way to access and view electronic tablets in kitchens and other workspaces.
The energy efficient LED-light mylight products from e3light, including bed and closet models, are designed to softly illuminate rooms and areas with motion-activated sensors for safety and convenience. The illumination automatically turns off when no motion is detected.
The Food Cycler is an odorless indoor electric composter, offering users the ability to process leftover food scraps into lab- certified organic compost in as little as three hours, according to the company. The appliance requires no venting, draining or additives required. Food Cycle officials describe the indoor composter as a “true cradle-to-cradle solution.”
The Mini Hangout from Cornerstone Distributing is an easy-to-install, compact wall rack that expands from 3.5 inches to 18 inches for hanging keys, jewelry, eyeglasses and more throughout the home and office.
