Katy Perry Teams With Staples For Teacher Support Campaign

As the back to school season approaches, Staples, Inc. is teaming up with singer Katy Perry to “Make Roar Happen” and support teachers during the back-to-school season, the retailer announced. To encourage teachers, parents and students across the United States to Make Roar Happen, a slogan that references a Perry song, Staples will become the presenting sponsor of her Prismatic World Tour's North American leg, which resumes on June 22 in Raleigh, NC, the company noted.

Staples is building on its history of supporting teachers, students and education by providing $1 million to DonorsChoose.org, a charity that has helped fund 450,000 classroom projects for teachers, so impacting more than 11 million students, the retailer related.

Starting June 25, Perry fans can enter the Make Roar Happen Video Sweepstakes and win a trip to Los Angeles to meet her and attend her concert on September 19 at the Staples Center. Consumers can create videos "roaring" about their educational goals, inspirational teachers, or how education has positively affected their lives, Staples indicated. They can upload their videos at Staples.com/MakeRoarHappen. In addition, the retailer added, customers who spend $10 or more at any Staples store will receive a unique code or codes on their store receipts based on the total amount spent, which they can enter online at Staples.com/MakeRoarHappen for a chance to win two tickets to a Perry concert in the United States.

“Make Roar Happen with Katy Perry builds on Staples’ commitment to teachers in a new and engaging way,” said Alison Corcoran, Staples senior vp, North American stores and online marketing, in announcing the Perry initiative. “With music that inspires people worldwide, Katy Perry is a powerful voice to encourage people to roar and recognize teachers for their impact both inside and outside the classroom. Our $1 million donation will help teachers supply their classrooms just in time for back to school.”

Perry stated, “I’m glad to partner with Staples on my Prismatic World Tour to raise awareness and funds for DonorsChoose.org, and to remind my fans that a small gesture can make a large impact on the very basic materials classrooms need for teachers to help students reach their full potential.”
