Marimekko Looks To Expand North American Share With New Shop-In-Shop Concepts

Building on plans to expand its market share in North America, Marimekko has announced a series of new shop-in-shop locations in some of the region’s notable department and specialty home stores. The new destinations feature curated collections of ceramics, glassware and home textiles, highlighted with a selection of the brand’s vibrant bags and accessories.

“Marimekko has been known and loved in the United States since the 1960s. Now, with measurable momentum already in place, we are concentrating on boosting the brand’s distribution in North America through high-end department and specialty stores,” said Lynn Shanahan, president.

Known for simple, clean, functional design suited to everyday living, Canada’s EQ3 stores specialize in furniture and custom upholstery, a service that will now feature Marimekko’s signature textiles as well. “The recent Liberty Village shop-in-shop opening was a great success and we look forward to expanding our locations and offerings with a palette of exciting new Marimekko designs,” said EQ3 CEO Peter Tielmann. EQ3 Winnipeg, Montreal, Brossard, Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto-King and Emeryville San Francisco openings will take place during the month of July.

Mexico’s leading department store, El Palacio de Hierro, known for presenting beautiful selections of home furnishings and décor, is also participating in the new shop concept initiative. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to collaborate with such an innovative and design oriented company as Marimekko,” said Rodrigo Flores Vazquez, director of buying. Palacio Perisur, Santa Fe and Coyocan shop-in-shops were opened in May and the beginning of June in Mexico City, and will be followed by a Durango location in mid-June.
