Four companies have been recognized with Gourmet Housewares Best New Product Awards at this summer’s NY NOW, the Market for Home & Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF). The four honorees also are eligible for NY NOW’s first-ever “Best of Home” Award, which will be determined by online balloting during the show.
NYcruets received “Best of Show” honors for its Cruet Modena. Awards were also were presented in three product-specific categories, including cooking (cookware, bakeware and small electrics); dining (serveware, bar/wine accessories, picnic/barbecue accessories and specialty foods); and kitchen preparation (kitchen gadgets, kitchen textiles, cookbooks and storage/containers).
Winners and finalists in each category were selected by a panel of trade editors and were judged on the following criteria: innovative design; creative use of materials/construction; and use of new materials/ technology.
“Among hundreds of innovative products designed for better home entertaining in this section of NY NOW Home, these four captured our judges’ attention and merited special recognition,” said Marc Delman, Tabletop + Gourmet Housewares national sales manager.
The summer 2013 winners and finalists, selected from 70 products, are:
Best of Show— NYcruets (Derkovits, Hungary) for its Cruet Modena, which combines centuries old techniques with modern design.
Cooking Category— Winner: Talisman Designs, LLC (Minneapolis, MN) for its Get Real Measuring Spoons, a beechwood measuring spoon set. Finalists were monbento (Clemont, France) for its MB Lib – the double wall bowl; and HIC, Harold Import Co. (Lakewood, NJ) for its Rose’s Collapsible Silicone Baking Bowl.
Dining Category— Winner: Corkcicle (Orlando, FL) for its Chillsner, which chills drinks, not bottles, to the last drop. Finalists were Core Home (New York, NY) for its Chalkables utensil caddy; and French Bull (New York, NY) for its Cake Stand and Knife Set.
Kitchen Preparation Category— Winner: Spice Ratchet (Lakewood, NJ) for its Blossom Choco.Nut.Cheese grater. Finalists were Zing Anything (Chicago, Il) for its Salad Zinger; and Zevro (Skokie, IL) for its Press ‘n Measure.
Best of Show and category winning products automatically qualify for consideration in NY NOW’s first “Best of Home” Award, which will be determined through online voting at redclaydesign.com/nynow. “Peoples’ Choice” balloting runs August 17-20, and the winner will be announced on August 21.
The Best New Product Award judges were: Jo Cooper, Tableware International, Diane Falvey, HomeWorld Business and Gourmet Insider; Sharon Franke, Good Housekeeping; Laurie O’Halloran, Home Style; Duke Ratliff, HFN; Jennifer White Karp, Gourmet Business; and Anna Wolfe, The Gourmet Retailer.
