For the four weeks ended December 28, Rite Aid Corp. announced that comparable store sales increased 2.9% versus the prior-year period. December front-end comps, including general merchandise such as home furnishings and housewares, advanced 1%.
Pharmacy comps, which include approximately 102 basis points negative impact from new generic drug introductions, increased 4.1%, according to the company.
Total drugstore sales for the four-week period increased 2.7% to $2.11 billion versus the month last year. Prescription revenues accounted for 63.6% of drugstore sales.
As of December 28, Rite Aid operated 4,592 stores versus 4,630 stores in December 2013.
