Rite Aid September Front End Sales Strong

For the four weeks ended September 29, Rite Aid Corp. overall comparable store sales decreased 0.7% over the prior-year period, the company announced. However, September front-end comps, including general merchandise such as housewares, increased 2.8%, it noted.

Pharmacy comps, which included an approximate 911 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, decreased 2.3%, the company stated. Prescription count at comparable stores advanced by 4.4% over the prior-year period. 

Total drugstore sales for the four-week period decreased 1.5% to $1.9 billion compared with the month last year. Prescription sales accounted for 67.8% of drugstore sales, Rite Aid related.
