Today, Stein Mart, Inc. reported that for the four-week period ended June 1, comparable store sales increased 8.2%. Total sales increased 3.6% to $107.3 million, the company related.
The retailer stated that, by segment, strongest sales for the month came from linens, ladies’ casual sportswear, ladies’ boutique and ladies’ career sportswear, while ladies’ special sizes, ladies’ accessories, men’s sportswear and dresses trailed. Geographically, the Southeast sales region performed best while the Northeast slightly trailed the company average, Stein Mart related.
“We are thrilled to announce our May comparable store sales increase of 8.2%, which was on top of a strong 8% increase in April,” said Jay Stein, interim CEO. “These results were driven by our ability to deliver great fashion, brands and pricing, through a well-executed merchandising and marketing strategy.”
Stein Mart operated 262 stores at the end of May versus 263 stores at the same time last year.
