TV Tipping Focus Of Sanus, Safe Kids Campaign

Sanus and Safe Kids Worldwide are working on a new multi-faceted partnership developed to educate consumers about the tipping risk associated with unsecured flat-panel televisions. The informational campaign also will identify TV safety solutions such as the kind of wall mounts Sanus provides.

Due to increasing size and new ultra-thin designs, the partners asserted, flat panel TVs today can more easily tip when bumped or pulled, causing them to topple off furniture, potentially causing injury or even death, particularly to children. Sanus and Safe Kids noted that a 2011 United States Consumer Product Safety Commission report indicated that a child dies every three weeks from the tipping of an unsecured TV. In addition, they added that an estimated 20,000 people sought treatment in emergency rooms in 2010 due to injuries caused by tipping TVs, a figure that gained 25% from 2006.

In the joint initiative, Safe Kids Worldwide will engage local coalitions to prompt a grass-roots educational movement. For its part, Sanus has recently launched an educational site,, as well as a national safety awareness consumer ad campaign, the organizations stated.
