Walgreens has announced that total sales for fiscal 2013 were $72.22 billion, up 0.8% from fiscal 2012. Total sales for the fiscal 2013 fourth quarter were $17.95 billion, up 5.15% from last year’s period, with overall comparable store sales up 4.5% and front-end comps up 1.7%, the company stated.
Comparable pharmacy sales advanced 6.2% in the fourther quarter versus the period last year, it added.
For August, Walgreens posted sales of $6.17 billion, up 5.6% from the fiscal 2012 month. Store comps increased $4.8% while comparable store front-end sales increased 2.2%. Customer traffic in comparable stores decreased 1.5% while basket size increased 3.7 %, Walgreens maintained. Total front-end sales increased 3.9% in August compared with the same month in fiscal 2012.
August comparable store pharmacy sales increased 6.4%, the company noted.
As of August 31, Walgreens operated 8,585 locations in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam including 8,117 drugstores, 188 more than a year ago, including 67 net stores acquired over the past 12 months. The company also operates infusion and respiratory services facilities, specialty pharmacies and mail service operations, as well as its Take Care Health Systems subsidiary, which more than 700 in-store convenient care clinics and worksite health and wellness centers.
