2018 Housewares Design Awards Ask The Judges: Helen Maria Nugent

This exclusive video series profiles each of the 2018 Housewares Design Awards judges and their views on where they find inspiration.

Helen Maria Nugent is the Dean of Design at California College of the Arts (CCA) in San Francisco. She oversees six undergraduate and three graduate programs covering a diverse range of design subjects, including industrial design, fashion, interaction design, furniture, illustration and graphic design. Prior to joining CCA, Nugent was the founding chair of the Designed Objects programs at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). She has more than 20 years of teaching and leadership experience in higher education and has spearheaded successful design partnerships with the Tacoma Museum of Art, CB2, Kikkerland, Industreal, Danese Milano, Dupont Corian, The Future Perfect, and Spazio Rossana Orlandi.

Nugent is a principal partner in Haelo Design, an independent, research oriented studio with a focus on furniture, objects and exhibition design.

She is a master teacher in design for the YoungArts Foundation and has served as a juror for the Presidential Scholars in the Arts, the Core77 Annual Design Awards, the International Housewares Awards, the Kurtich Traveling Scholarships and the College Arts Association Professional Development Fellowships.
