The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) has certified the unscented versions of the Febreze Fabric Refresher Allergen Reducer and Swiffer Dry Dusters and Sweepers as asthma and allergy friendly, according to Procter & Gamble, which owns both brands.
The Swiffer and Febreze products are the first to be certified in their respective categories of dry dusting cleaners and allergen reducing sprays, said the company.
The AAFA partnered with Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) to offer the certification program to consumer products in the U.S., according to the AAFA website.
“With all of the misconceptions about how to properly reduce inanimate allergens in the home, we are proud to certify these three Swiffer and Febreze products as asthma and allergy friendly,” said Mike Tringale, svp/external affairs at AAFA. “Using the right tools, cleaning the proper way and staying on top of daily allergen removal can really help to make a healthier home.”
To help shed light on the subject, Procter & Gamble said it has recruited self-proclaimed cleaning fanatic and star of “Modern Family,” Jesse Tyler Ferguson. According to the company, the actor will join the brands via a social media campaign to help people clean more effectively when it comes to the reduction of inanimate allergens in their home.
Ferguson has encouraged spring cleaners nationwide to share on social media, using the hash tags #SwifferEffect and #BreatheHappy.
“I’m obsessed with cleaning my home and my trailer on the set of ‘Modern Family,’ so when I learned from the folks at AAFA that I was cleaning wrong and actually stirring up the allergens instead of removing them, I stopped to listen,” said Ferguson. “Now, there are select asthma and allergy friendly products from Febreze and Swiffer that help reduce allergens in the home, which is especially important to me when the seasons change.”
