Amazon.com is continuing to expand its fulfillment center operations across the country, with plans to open two new fulfillment centers in New Jersey and one in Long Island.
The new sites will be located in Florence and Carteret. Through these new buildings, Amazon will bring more than 2,000 full-time jobs to the state, the company said.
“We place our fulfillment centers close to customers to provide the fastest possible delivery times, and this expansion in New Jersey is directly tied to our increasing customer demand,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s vp/North America fulfillment operations. “We currently have more than 5,500 full-time jobs in the state and we are excited about the opportunity to add 2,000 new full-time positions.”
Amazon currently operates a fulfillment center in Carteret with more than 500 full-time associates. This new fulfillment center, the second in Carteret, will be more than 800,000 square-feet and employ more than 1,500 full-time associates. The more than 600,000 square-foot fulfillment center in Florence will employ more than 500 full-time associates when opened.
Amazon recently announced plans to open a sixth Texas fulfillment center in Haslet, making it the fourth fulfillment center in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the e-commerce company, as well as a seventh California fulfillment center in San Bernardino.
In addition, Newsday reported that Amazon has agreed to lease a 161,360-square-foot facility in Bethpage, Long Island, New York, to use as a distribution center. The facility previously housed a distribution center for Goya Foods.
