Ikea and wireless audio producer Sonos have developed a table lamp and a bookshelf with WiFi speaker for the retailer’s Symfonisk collection.
The goals for the collection included creating furnishings with sound while at the same time allowing consumers to live with fewer wire attachments. The table lamp is slated for a $179 retail while the bookshelf speaker, which can be set vertically or horizontally and supports up to 6.6 pounds, is set for a $99 retail, Ikea noted.
“We knew from the start that we wanted to challenge the traditional high-tech aesthetics,” said Ikea Symfonisk designer Iina Vuorivirta. “The lamp-speaker partly springs from the idea of the fireplace— one single piece that spreads warm light as well as sound.”
