Belk Inc. announced today that the company has named David Zant as president and CMO effective August 11. The announcement comes one day after Bon-Ton stores announced that former Belk president, Kathryn Bufano, resigned to accept the role of CEO at Bon-Ton.
Zant has served as Belk’s executive vice president and general merchandising manager of men’s, home and kids since 2008. He joined Belk in 2001 as president of the retailer’s former Central Division in Charlotte, NC. He held a number of different positions, before leaving the company in 2005 for a role with The Bon-Ton Stores as vice chairman of private brands, merchandise planning and internet marketing. He returned to Belk in 2008, the company said.
Zant began his career in 1978 and has held senior merchandising positions with Saks and the former Mercantile Stores Co. Inc., the company said.
Zant will report to Tim Belk, chairman and CEO.
“We are very pleased to announce David Zant’s promotion to our top merchandising and marketing post,” Belk said. “He is an exceptional merchant who is well-respected in our industry, and who will bring great strategic leadership to these areas of our business.”
