Bloomingdale’s Readies Hawaii Entry

Bloomingdale’s has set the opening of its new Ala Moana store in Honolulu for Thursday, November 12. The previously announced opening represents the banner’s entrance into the Hawaii market, the retailer noted.

The new location will serve as the centerpiece of a major retail expansion and common area renovation at Ala Moana Center, the world’s largest open-air shopping mall, Bloomingdale’s reported.

The three-level, 165,000 square-foot store will follow an updated, smaller store format, with full-line offerings and an extensive roster of brands, several of which are exclusive to the Ala Moana store.

Bloomingdale’s located the home department on the store’s third floor.

The overall shopping experience will get a boost from technology, the retailer said. For example, selling associates aid customers using handheld devices that provide instant access to product information. In addition, customers can buy online, pickup in store, get same day delivery within a set radius of the store and arrange international shipping of in-store purchases.

Grand opening festivities kick off on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. as part of Ala Moana Center’s Ewa Wing expansion celebration, which Bloomingdale’s will follow with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and store opening at 9:30 a.m. Loyalty program shoppers attending the grand opening day festivities will receive 10 times the usual loyalty points for purchases, the company said.
