CDN Launches Non-Contact Forehead Thermometer

In an urgent response to the COVID-19 crisis, CDN has introduced a Non-Contact Forehead Thermometer. The new medical-grade model uses infrared technology to measure forehead or surface temperature, with a 1-second response time.

“The Non-Contact Forehead Thermometer is not a retail product, but it will be of interest to housewares retailers looking to protect health and safety in the workplace. We are focusing on large orders for companies that want a safe, effective way to check employee temperatures,” said Shawn DiGruccio, evp/CDN.

CDN said that as a major supplier of infrared thermometers, the company has the experience, technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities to repurpose and expand its infrared thermometer production to assist in the crucial mission of creating safe workplace environments during the pandemic.

“The underlying technology of our new Non-Contact Forehead Thermometer is the same we’ve been using for years, but this FDA-cleared model is designed to measure human body temperature. It’s simple to use, and because there’s no contact, there’s no need for sterilization after each use,” said DiGruccio. “The ability to protect health in the workplace is one of the most significant challenges today.”

The thermometer features plus/minus 0.4 degrees Fahrenheit accuracy, plus memory recall for up to 25 readings. It uses an algorithm to convert forehead temperature into the oral equivalent. It also features a one-button operation and a blue backlight that extends visibility to low light conditions. It features an audible temperature alert, or can be programmed to remain silent.

In forehead mode, it has a temperature range of 93.2 degrees to 108 degrees Fahrenheit. It can also measure in surface mode, from -7.6 degrees to +176 degrees, giving it multifunctional versatility. It also provides non-contact temperature readings within 1.5 inches (4 cm). In surface mode, the distance to spot ratio is 1:1.

The Non-Contact Forehead Thermometer is made of ABS plastic. It is FDA cleared, with multiple certifications, and will be available for shipment in May 2020.
