For May, Costco posted net sales of $11.02 billion, up 14.1% from the month last year.
Comparable store sales, excluding the effects of fuel and foreign exchange rate fluctuation, gained 8% with comps in the U.S. up 8.7%, comps in Canada up 5.4% and comps in other international locations up 7.4%.
E-commerce comps, without foreign exchange rate impact, was up 33.3%.
Regionally, the Midwest, Texas and the Southeast had the strongest gains, the company said in a conference call. By merchandising categories, softlines comps gained mid single digits led by apparel, domestics and small appliances. Hardlines gained low to mid teens led by majors, garden, office and sporting goods. Food and sundries was up mid to high single digits, and fresh food was up in the low to mid single digits.
