For the four weeks ended February 2, Costco Wholesale Corp. posted net sales of $11.57 billion, up 8% from the year-before period.
With the effect of fuel and foriegn exchange rate fluctuations omitted, comparable sales gained 5.3%. Comps in the U.S. advanced 5.6%; those in Canada rose 4.8%; and those for other international markets increased 4.5%. E-commerce comps grew 17.2%.
In a conference call, Costco pointed out that its strongest U.S. regions were the Midwest, Texas and San Diego. Softlines increased low to mid single digits, with housewares among the strongest segments. Food & Sundries increased mid single digits. Hardlines increased low to mid single digits. Fresh Foods increased mid single digits.
