For more than 40 years, Crate & Barrel’s stores on Michigan Avenue in Chicago have been a destination for local residents and visitors to the Windy City.
But the retailer’s store at 646 N. Michigan Ave. is now closing, ending a run that started in the mid-1970s. The home furnishings retailer opened its first Michigan Avenue location in 1975 and moved to the Magnificent Mile location now being closed 15 years later.
Crate & Barrel will continue to operate its other location in Chicago on W. North Avenue.
Starbucks is planning to open a four-story store in the building, which is slated to open in 2019 following a $10 million renovation project, Crain’s Chicago Business reported.
