eBay has appointed Pete Thompson svp/chief product officer and Mazen Rawashdeh as svp/chief technology officer.
They will serve as members of eBay’s executive leadership team, reporting to president and CEO Devin Wenig.
Thompson will focus on simplifying an increasingly personalized and discovery-based shopping experience while providing enhanced tools and insights to help eBay sellers succeed. Thompson joins eBay from Amazon where he served as vp/Alexa voice service.
As chief technology officer, Rawashdeh will lead platform engineering and the company’s infrastructure and platform architecture operations, as well as AI, research and data science, payment and risk engineering, and its third-party developer ecosystem and APIs. Rawashdeh was a platform engineering leader prior to his promotion. His prior experience included acting as an investor/advisor and a stint as Twitter’s vp/infrastructure operation. Prior to that, he spent eight years in eBay technology leadership roles from 2003 to 2011.
In addition, eBay said that Scott Gaffney, a former Yahoo executive, is joining the company as vp/search engineering, and that Steve Metz is returning to eBay as vp/product analytics after a period of time working with Amazon.
