Gourmet Housewares Show To Join Winter New York Gift Fair In 2011

NEW YORK— GLM announced its Gourmet Housewares Show will move to New York City beginning in January 2011, to be presented annually within the winter edition of the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF).

The August 2010 Gourmet Housewares Show originally slated for San Francisco will move to New York’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, January 30 through February 3, 2011. GLM said the co-location is expected to bring some 150 new gourmet housewares and specialty food exhibitors to NYIGF, complementing the fair’s existing tabletop and housewares division.

Relocation plans were developed in response to an industrywide survey revealing a need for a housewares event at the beginning of the calendar year, GLM said.

“This new market platform offers advantageous first-quarter timing and expanded cross-marketing opportunities to benefit both retailers and vendors and, with NYIGF’s semi-annual timing, affords a third-quarter market opportunity for interested exhibitors,” said Dorothy Belshaw, NYIGF director and GLM senior vp. “Exhibitors gain access to an exponentially larger attendee base than ever before, and buyers benefit from the influx of gourmet resources alongside NYIGF’s existing and unparalleled gift, tabletop and home offerings.”

The planned move of the Gourmet Housewares Show follows a recent joint survey by GLM and the International Housewares Association to assess industry demand for a second U.S. gourmet housewares-related show, and when and where such a show would be preferred.

According to joint statement by GLM and IHA, the two groups “concluded their recently announced discussions concerning U.S.-based trade events without being able to reach an agreement to work together. The two groups had agreed to jointly conduct an industry survey about the need for housewares focused shows in the U.S., and the results of that survey formed the basis for their discussions.”
