Hearth & Home Recalls Indoor Gas Fireplaces

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Hearth & Home has recalled its Heat-N-Glo and Heatilator Corner Unit Series indoor gas fireplaces.

According to the CPSC, the back of the firebox can bow out and pose a fire hazard. The recall includes four models from the company’s Heat-N-Glo and Heatilator Corner Unit Series of indoor gas fireplaces: LCOR-36TRB-IPI, RCOR-36TRB-IPI, GDCL4136I and GDCR4136I.

To date, there have been two reported incidents involving charring and minor property damage, however, no injuries have been reported.

Hearth & Home said that there have been 2,500 recalled fireplaces, priced between $3,500 to $5,000, sold at various fireplace stores from March 2008 through November 2014.

The fireplaces are LP or NG-fueled corner units with tempered glass fronts. The model numbers of the recalled units are printed on the unit rating plate, located near the controls used to operate the fireplaces, and in the instruction manual.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the gas fireplaces and contact the fireplace store where the unit was purchased to arrange for a free inspection and installation of a correction kit.
