Home Meridian International has appointed Jay Jordan, former president and CEO of Dorel Industries’ Ameriwood Home division, to president of the newly created HMidea business, which will produce an assortment of ready-to-assemble furniture.
The company also hired Cory Neudeck as HMidea vp/product development. Neudeck had been director of product development at Ameriwood Home.
According to HMI co-president Doug Townsend, the creation of the new HMidea division— dedicated to “Innovative Design, Easy Assembly” the company pointed out— creates an opportunity to build and dedicate a team of individuals for a specific product, RTA, and a specific channel of distribution.
“The mass sales channel has strategically been a focus of HMI for several years,” Townsend said. “With the addition of Jay to our team, we are building an entire division responsible for this advantaged channel of distribution. In addition to driving the sales effort in the mass channel, Jay will be responsible for designing, developing and merchandising the products required to grow this business.”
HMidea will expand upon and complement merchandise from other HMI divisions in developing products to specifically target the mass market. The product development focus will be RTA laminate constructions for bedroom and living room including entertainment, occasional, accent and home office furniture.
“Jay’s experience in this product category will be an asset as we launch this new division and strategically align to target this growing opportunity in the industry’s evolving retail landscape,” Townsend added. “Our decision to build an entirely new division demonstrates our commitment to this channel of distribution.”
