The deadline to apply for the 2019 Housewares Design Awards has been extended from October 26 to November 2, 2018. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at an awards ceremony held during the 2019 Las Vegas Winter Market.
Applications for the 2019 Housewares Design Awards will be accepted through November 2 in 11 core product categories: Beverage Appliances; Cooking and Food Prep Appliances; Cookware and Bakeware; Cutlery and Cutting Tools; Dining and Entertaining, including tabletop, wine and bar accessories; Gadgets, Kitchen Tools and Countertop Accessories; Home Décor and Outdoor Accessories; Home Environment and Cleaning Appliances; On-the-Go Beverageware, including hydration products and thermal beverageware; Personal Care, Wellness and Garment Care Appliances; Storage, Non-electric Cleaning and Laundry Care.
In addition to the core housewares categories, the Smart Home Award will recognize network-connected products for controlling, automating and optimizing functions such as temperature, lighting, security, safety or entertainment, either remotely by a phone, tablet, computer or a separate system function. Entries may be submitted in the standalone Smart Home category, or submitted for consideration as an add-on design differentiator for any of the 11 core housewares categories.
New for the 2019 Housewares Designs Awards is a Gourmet Specialty Foods category for packaged and/or perishable shelf-stable foods and giftable specialty foods.
The 14th Housewares Design Awards ceremony is set for Tuesday, January 29, 2019, during the Winter 2019 Las Vegas Market at the World Market Center Las Vegas.
Las Vegas Market is partnering with HomeWorld Business on the Housewares Design Awards for the third year as the award ceremony host while providing independent judging, operational and promotional support for the design competition.
Non-stick coatings leader Whitford Corporation continues its longstanding sponsorship of the Housewares Design Awards.
A team of designers, retailers and design educators will meet in Las Vegas in mid-November to test, review and rate the products entered into the core housewares categories based on four criteria: appropriate aesthetics, innovative materials and technology; user benefits (performance, comfort, ease of use, safety); and marketability. Criteria for the Gourmet Specialty Foods category, sponsored by HomeWorld Business sister publication Gourmet Insider, include taste and presentation and/or packaging.
Each product entered into the 11 core gourmet categories as well as the Smart Home and Gourmet Specialty food categories costs $175. Products entered in the 11 core gourmet categories can also request consideration in the Smart Home category for an additional $50. The 2019 finalists will be notified after judging in mid-November. The finalists also will be announced in HomeWorld Business magazine and on HomeWorldBusiness.com, HousewaresDesignAwards.com and Las Vegas Market website LVMKT.com. The third annual “Design Influencer” Award, which recognizes an individual or organization for exceptional design or design influence, will be presented during the celebration. The award will be selected jointly by Las Vegas Market and HomeWorld Business, and the honoree will be invited to speak at the Awards Celebration. Previous recipients included The Grommet and West Elm Local.
A special display spotlighting the 2019 finalists and award-winning products will be featured adjacent to the C11 gourmet housewares showrooms during the Winter 2019 Las Vegas Market, January 28 to February 1.
