On Monday, April 15, Ikea will open its first-ever Planning Studio at 999 Third Avenue in Manhattan, near Bloomingdale’s, marking a new, smaller-scale chapter in the Swedish retailer’s development.
The 17,350 square foot Planning Studio will provide consumers with unique small space solutions, Ikea stated, and encourage them to browse and order from a curated selection of its popular items. In store, Ikea sales design staffers will work with individual shoppers on custom storage and kitchen solutions.
The New York Ikea Planning Studio is part of a global company effort to develop 30 new touchpoints in city centers over the next three years. At the same time, Ikea continues opening traditional stores, with its 50th such location in the U.S., at 331,000 square feet, having opened in Norfolk, VA, on April 10.
