Ikea has taken a step toward opening its Oak Creek, WI, store, slated to debut next summer, beginning installation of the iconic blue composite panels on the Milwaukee-area structure.
The 290,000-square-foot future Ikea Oak Creek will operate at the corner of Interstate 94 and Drexel Avenue, about 12 miles south of downtown Milwaukee. The location will boost Ikea’s presence in the upper Midwest, where the company operates stores in Bolingbrook and Schaumburg, IL, near Chicago, and Bloomington, MN, near Minneapolis/St. Paul.
“With Ikea Oak Creek taking shape and the blue paneling now going up, we continue to be on track for a grand opening next summer,” said Lars Petersson, Ikea U.S. president. “We hope to be enclosed by winter, and cannot wait to begin transforming the building’s interior to look like an Ikea store as well. We know there are many customers in the area who are excited for us to open, including those who are driving great distances to shop at our other stores as well those who have yet to experience the unique Ikea shopping experience.”
