Ikea is preparing to build a new store in the parking lot of its existing location in Renton, WA. The company will replace the current location with a new facility on the same lot so it can continue serving customers during the location makeover, the retailer announced.
The currently operating 398,000-square-foot Ikea store is located on 29 acres in Renton, near State Highway 167, about 11 miles southeast of downtown Seattle. It was built in 1979. The new Ikea store would offer consumers 406,000-square-feet of shopping on two levels.
Ikea reported that it has chosen Deacon Corp. to serve as construction manager and general contractor for site work and store development. The new store is slated to open in spring 2017.
“Ikea is excited at the opportunity to relocate our established, successful presence at the same location as the existing one,” said Lars Petersson, Ikea U.S. president. “Opening a new, updated Seattle-area store at the same location allows us to offer an enhanced Ikea shopping experience.”
