J.C. Penney Holiday Comps Up 3.4%

J.C. Penney holiday season comparable store sales were up 3.4% as officials with the department store cited home as a key driver.

Marvin Ellison, chairman and CEO of J.C. Penney, said that in addition to home, categories including beauty and fine jewelry were top performers over the nine-week period ended December 30.

“We are also pleased by our e-commerce business that continues to outpace prior year results with double-digit sales growth, largely driven by sought-after gifting categories such as fine jewelry, home decor and luggage, toys, boots and athletic footwear,” he added. “Our ability to execute e-commerce fulfillment from 100% of our brick and mortar stores helped fuel the growth in e-commerce for the holiday season.”

The company will share additional details about its 2017 fourth quarter performance and full year results in a March 2 conference call.
