January Retail Sales Grow

 

U.S. retail sales for January were up slightly over December and jumped 4.7% when compared to January 2009, according to figures released today by the United States Department of Commerce.

In addition, Commerce Department sales for the period from November 2009 through January 2010 were up 4.3% from the same three-month period the previous year. Retail trade sales for January were up 5.3% over January 2009 while non-store retail sales were up 12.4% over the same month the previous year.

Year-over-year sales at general merchandise retailers for the month were up 3.2%, department store sales were down 0.3%, while sales at furniture and home furnishings stores were down 4.4%.
